Ready for the World Program Overview

Roaring Fork School District’s post-secondary transition program, Ready for the World or RFTW, provides services for students ages 18-21, who continue to require specially designed IEP based instruction to work towards post-school goals, but who also benefit from a structured setting offering functional career, post- secondary education, and independent living skill building opportunities delivered primarily within a group of similarly-situated peers.

There are two different pathways to support students who receive 18-21 services. The encompassing program targets functional independent living, community, vocational and college/career skills.  Students qualify for services based on their needs to work towards attainable post-secondary goals and decisions are made through an IEP team process.

Mild/Moderate Needs

The Mild/Moderate Program focuses on career skills, post secondary education options, community engagement, and independent living skills. Students gain skills for optimum independence through classroom instruction, hands-on school-based business experiences, and community-based learning and engagement.

Students are mostly independent in classroom and community settings, with adults providing direction for new skills and tasks.

Significant Support Needs (SSN)

Our Significant Support Needs Program focus on the intensive direct instruction of life skills and employment skills so that students can achieve their highest level of independence possible.

We work closely with students, families, and outside agencies to create a continuum of services, care, and understanding to help bridge the gap between school services and adult services.
